Gaia Online Project Which Won't Really Change Anything

So quick to have a new blog all of a sudden, as I only typed a blog out just the other day, if you're interested go have a read. Thing is I had forgotten to mention a little mini project I want to do for the month of February.

As I mentioned in my first blog Gaia has become a total sellout. I want to know just how much of a sellout. Originally Gaia would sell Monthly Collectables for around about £1.25 each. Now usually they'd sell two new ones a month which is a grand total of £2.50 if you want the pair and would cost more if you were planning on buying several and selling them off. Okay so collecting the items isn't much money at all, buying many and selling them for Gaia gold is your way of getting gold, that's not Gaia selling out cause it's not that much money and it's your doing if that's how you get your gold.

But with all the new items things suddenly sound a lot more expensive, the chance boxes, where you buy them for about £5 ($10 = 1000 Gaia Cash) and play with chance to get the item you wanted (10 tries for £5 not too bad but then how lucky do you feel?), evolving items which are released in bulks and are usually sold from £1-£5 depending on the item, monthly collectables as stated above and finally the new animated items which I have no idea of the price at, but it'd cost about 25 pence to keep charged every 30 days except you can only buy a minimum of 500 Gaia Cash so you have to spend at least £2.50 every time you want to buy any of the above items or to keep your animated items animated.

So say you bought a new chance box for £5 giving you 10 chances of getting the item you want, or you could just sell it for Gaia gold, then you buy the three new evolving items, two of them priced at £1.25 and the last one at £5(So $15 = 1500 Gaia Cash) With me so far? That's £12.50 (Or $25 - also remember all exchange rates are approximate) spent so far and that's before buying two monthly collectables and an animated item. So an extra £2.50 for the collectables and say about £5 if my guess at the price of the animated items is at.

In one month of buying all that new stuff, you'd have spent £20 ($40 = 4000 Gaia Cash, but hey they give you a free item when you buy $25 or more worth of cash) That's before buying more if one so wished and of course don't forget about buying Gaia mercendise.

That's a lot of money and if not; it sure does add up in the long run. Nothing bad about spending a lot of money for a website you love, but Gaia have definally gotten greedy. Two items a month and merchendise I was happy with, how much more selling out do you need to do to pay for the bandwidth? (Or whatever you pay to keep a website up and running) Once upon a time Gaia Online (Or Go-Gaia) was originally only supposed to be a hobby that the creators were doing which gained a lot of popularity.

So moving back on with the topic at hand, if you're a hardcore Gaia fan (Like I once was) and you always want to make sure you've got all the newest and brand sparkly awesome items, you're probably spending £20-30 a month when you could be using the money for a new computer game, buying groceries, giving to charity, buying stamps to send Gaia your new profound hatred that they're sellouts. Again there's nothing wrong with you paying so much for what you want, that's your prerogative and your money. But seriously, Gaia are ripping you off with litrually fake gold. There is a stage where too much is in fact too much, especially when it comes down to pixelated items.

So getting down to the project at hand; it is now the 1st of February as of 3 hours and 40 minutes ago give or take (Here in England anyways) which means it's the perfect time to keep insightful for Gaia's item updates, to show how much money Gaia is trying to get in one month by offering many new items. I'll try to only mention brand new items, and not items such as those still evolving since January, saying that, as evolving items evolve, they become better and demands rise for newer and better items. All this can do is prove how money grabbing Gaia actually are and though it won't change anything, it's probably a good thing to know how much you're spending each month. I'm not gonna buy anything though, I'm just gonna lurk the announcements and the marketplace.

So in short, I'm gonna lurk Gaia for the whole of February and see how many new items are released and how many items are offered for Gaia Cum Cash and tally up a price at the end of the month to see how much a hardcore die hard Gaia loving fan would have to spend to try and get everything (If he were to get all items luckily with one chance box item even though you only get 10 tries for something that has 30 items) This will probably prove how much of a sellout Gaia has become.

As a final Gaian note; how bout a quick pole? Vote below yes or no as to whether or not I should post my thoughts of Gaia on Gaia Online itself. I already know I'll get two yes' and probably no other comments, but it's worth a try.

Thanks again for reading, untill next time.

  1. Here's one of your 'Yeses' :P

I've never understood the spending of money on the site when you can do pretty much everything without paying. The extra things from what I remember are all just material.

However, if they can get people to spend the money then they're gonna keep hiking up prices! I'd do it lol.
